The DESC

Introduction

Overview - Based on MicroFirst’s DAS technology the DESC is a fully expandable and extensible real-time control & monitoring system for satellite IRD’s. This stand-alone automation product is designed to provide reliable schedule management and device control for, literally, hundreds of IRD’s through RS232, RS422 or TCP/IP communications.

The “real-time control” portion of DESC runs on an MPC-1610 under the WinMOS, MicroFirst’s reliable and efficient embedded OS. There are no lock-ups, no “blue-screens” and no waiting for long boot-up processes. The system typically boots in 10 seconds or less, from power-on, providing faster services with minimal down-time. The GUI portion of DESC is handled by a suite of schedule editing and data management applications designed to run on user-supplied WinNT/2000/XP workstations.

DESC features:

    • Graphical manual control of all aspects of an IRD that are accessible through its protocol
    • Scheduling of implicit mode changes (i.e. DCII or DVB modes)
    • Scheduling of virtual channel and virtual table mode changes
    • Scheduling of frequency changes
    • Alarming of communications losses, noise ratio, db level and tuning
    • Logging of all system activity with separate Log Viewing application
