DAS-NLS System Print

The DAS-NLS System automates the hierarchical storage and retrieval process of video clips existing on professional archive devices and/or networked attached storage (NAS) disk arrays, and on professional on-line video servers.

This intelligent system automatically decides what media needs to be stored in archive, as well as when media should be copied from archive to a video server in time for play out based on the Digital Automation System (DAS) program schedules.

Deleting archived clips from a Video Server is also just as easy. If the kill (deletion) date for a clip is earlier than a schedule requires it to be, the NLS will automatically adjust the kill date to be subsequent to the last scheduled play out. Of course, clip transfer and clip deletion may also be executed manually. In addition to Video, the NLS can also attach graphics, audio, and MicroFirst format files to the primary video clip. Video Servers and near-line Archive Storage disk arrays are all interconnected via a TCP/IP LAN.

The NLS has been built with the same rock-solid reliability and superior database management that our DAS is known for. THE NLS utilizes Microsoft's high performance SQL Server based database and the .NET Framework.

The system offers easy to operate intuitive GUI's complementing our DAS GUI's and is fully integrated into the DAS suite of software applications.

Tools
  • Sharing of all DAS schedules, clip, and resource data
  • Flexible search criteria for all clip metadata
  • User extensible metadata such as producer, cast, rights management, etc.
  • Extensive logging
  • Real-time dynamic determination of transfer time based on clip size, LAN speed, number of concurrent transfers, etc.

NLS Explorer

The NLS Explorer is used to view a list of all of the archived content, as well as all archive actions future, past and present to be taken by the NLS Server.

When viewing existing content, different filters can be applied. Specific clips can be searched for by partial or full name and/or description, and the NLS Explorer can search content that is in the archive, on the video servers, or both.

The Task Status section is used to view clips to be archived, to be restored to video server, to be deleted, currently executing archive tasks, and completed tasks (successful and failed).

The NLS Explorer can also be used to delete content from archive, and also to force content in archive to be restored to a specific video server.

NLS - Archive Management Interface (AMI) Option

This flexible XML interface allows integration between MicroFirst's NLS and DAS databases and third party Archive Management Systems databases.

The NLS-AMI allows the MicroFirst NLS system to automate the exchange of video clip metadata information as clips are added, removed, or modified, to & from third party Archive Management System (AMS) so that a complete set of DAS-NLS information can exist within the AMS.
