Local Insertion System
MicroFirst was instrumental in the implementation of the PBS LIS Project in software and hardware design and implementation. The MicroFirst DAS was the eventual multi-channel evolution of the PBS LIS.
The LIS is a schedule and operations system enabling stations to efficiently customize national schedules with automated insertion of local material. The LIS enables stations to have the best of both worlds: the efficiencies of common national schedules, and the impact of specialized local programming and messages.
The LIS carries out three main functions:
- The LIS enables stations to create schedules by integrating national and local origination options.
- The LIS executes the schedule by sending automated commands to appropriate station hardware.
- The LIS creates a log of the schedule as executed
Although material for LIS insertion may come from a number of sources, the primary source of insertion material is a video server.
